Irrigation Collaboration | GolfCourseIndustry.com

San Diego’s wildly popular Mission Bay Golf Course is rocking with a new irrigation system that has modernized the work of the maintenance team and enhanced the recreational experience.

The City of San Diego operates three golf properties: Torrey Pines, Balboa Park and Mission Bay Golf Course. Designed by Ted Robinson in 1955, Mission Bay was functioning with some of its original irrigation.

“Records are scarce for improvements, but I know the old hydraulic block system was difficult to operate,” says Wayne Carpenter, the senior superintendent for Mission Bay and Balboa Park. “We were doing a lot of hand-watering.”

A system upgrade was overdue.

Work performed for the City of San Diego goes through a public bidding process and contracts were awarded to Brent Harvey Consulting for the irrigation system design and 3-D Enterprises as the general contractor for multiple improvements. Landscapes Unlimited was awarded the subcontract for the irrigation installation on the course. Harvey has worked on the other San Diego courses and Landscapes Unlimited has a long-standing relationship with the city, recently completing extensive renovations at Torrey Pines, including the design and build work for the South course in preparation for the 2021 U.S. Open.

Landscapes Unlimited’s Lost Rail Golf Club Named ‘Clubhouse of the Year’ | golfcoursetrades.com

Golf course developer and construction company Landscapes Unlimited’s Lost Rail Golf Club in Gretna, Neb. was voted “Clubhouse of the Year” by Golf Inc. Magazine.

It is the second award the year-old Lost Rail received from the magazine.  In June, it was named one of the world’s top three new private clubs.

Landscapes Unlimited’s project goal was to create a clubhouse that blends elegance with classic character.  Golf Inc. judges loved the achievement: “Beautifully appointed.  Such a warm and inviting space.  Lovely selections.”  Furthermore, “it’s a second home with a first-rate view.”

From afar, the 10,517 square-foot clubhouse resembles a 1920s home with chimneys, gables and dormers adorned in lime-washed brick.  Featuring 20-mile panoramas, it sits high on a bluff overlooking the Elkhorn and Platte rivers, gleaming during the day and striking in presence at night.

The interior presents a small number of elegant rooms which are easy to navigate, a formal dining room, boardroom, locker rooms, offices and a “killer” bar with massive windows.  The features are simple but timeless: fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, intricate crown molding, dark wood floors and vintage furniture. Windows are strategically placed throughout for natural sunlight.
